Fontana was born in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. In 1996, she made the final of the Elite Model Look when she was 13 and the following year she moved from southern Brazil to Milan, Italy, to begin her modeling career in 1999 at the age of 16, she thought, Victoria's Secret lingerie catalog.
